ISO/TS 16949
ISO/TS 16949:2002 is an ISO Technical Specification that includes the existing American (QS-9000), German (VDA6.1), French (EAQF), and Italian (AVSQ) automotive quality system standards within the scope of the global automotive industry, aimed at replacing the need to become certified multiple times and ways in order to meet customer needs.
ISO 9001:2008, along with ISO/TS 16949:2002, identifies the quality system requirements that are related to the design/development, production, assembly, and service for automotive products. In addition, vehicle manufacturers have their own unique requirements to meet special specifications for their customers.
ISO/TS 16949:2002 has been developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) in connection with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
IATF is made up of a group of international vehicle producers – BMW Group, DaimlerChrysler, Fiat, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation, PSA Peugeot-Citroen, Renault, and Volkswagen, and national associations such as AIAG (USA), VDA (Germany), SMMT (UK), ANFIA (Italy) and FIEV (France). The Japanese vehicle producers association, JAMA, has taken on the role of developing ISO/TS 16949:2002, and this will lead the way for Japanese vehicle producers to join the IATF.
ISO/TS 16949:2002 has guided the members of the IATF Vehicle Producing Companies to determining the requirements of certification for the automative parts industry.
Companies that are in the automotive parts supply-chain are continuing their work concurrent with the ISO/TS 16949:2002 requirements to document needs for the customer time/scales.
